Work out how many continuing education hours per week you need to finish before renewal, how many courses that means and what they will cost, for any professional with a CE requirement.

Continuing education requirements are easy to ignore for most of a renewal cycle and impossible to ignore in the last month. A 30 hour requirement spread over two years is a couple of evenings a quarter; the same 30 hours in the final three weeks means weekends, rushed self-study and whatever courses still have seats.

This calculator subtracts the hours you have already logged from what your board requires, divides the remainder by the weeks you have left, and compares that weekly pace with the hours you say you can realistically give it. It also counts the courses you still need at your typical course length and multiplies remaining hours by your average cost per hour. Every number comes from your inputs; there are no hidden benchmarks.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the CE hours your board requires this cycle and the hours you have already completed and documented.
  2. Enter the weeks left until your deadline and the hours per week you can honestly commit.
  3. Add your typical course length and cost per hour to see courses still needed and the remaining spend.

What the math assumes

  • Remaining hours equal required hours minus completed hours and never go below zero.
  • Weekly pace divides remaining hours evenly across the weeks you enter; no buffer for certificate processing is added unless you subtract it from the weeks remaining yourself.
  • Courses needed rounds up remaining hours divided by your average course length, so a partial course counts as a full one.
  • Remaining cost is remaining hours times your average cost per CE hour; free or employer-paid courses lower the real figure.
  • Category rules such as ethics minimums or caps on self-study hours are not modeled; treat the result as a total-hours pace check.

Frequently asked questions

What if my board counts some courses differently?

Enter the hours as your board will credit them, not the hours you spent in the seat. If part of your requirement must come from a specific category, run the calculator once for that category and once for the total.

Should I leave a buffer before the deadline?

Yes. Providers can take days to issue certificates and boards may need time to record them. Subtract that buffer from the weeks remaining before you enter it so the pace reflects your real finish date.

Why does the status say behind when I still have months left?

The status compares the required weekly pace with the hours per week you said you can give. Raise that number if you can commit more time, or increase the weeks by starting sooner, to bring the pace down.
